Scrawlpoint is a community site where users can add writings or blogs and receive feedback on those pieces. The name Scrawlpoint can be broken down like follows: Scrawlpoint ==> a point to scrawl ==> a place to scrawl ==> a place to write ==> a place in which you can write and be seen and heard by the community!
+ Aren't there enough of these sites already?
No, not in my mind. Even if there are, one more couldn't hurt!
+ Why did you start this site?
This site is to help me get better at website design in general, including page design, graphic design, coding in HTML, CSS and PHP as well as give me something fun to do!
+ What are your expectations for the site?
Nothing too big. I just want to get a functional website running, regardless of the size of its community.
+ Why isn't Microsoft Internet Explorer supported by the site or displaying the page correctly?
I used to be a big fan of Internet Explorer and think that Firefox was the bane of the internet's existence. That was before Internet Explorer 7.0. With the new version of IE, the HTML renderer displays HTML code completely differently. I was sick of trying to hack my code to have it view correctly. Mozilla Firefox is an amazing browser. On top of it being open-source, it can be highly customized and has all sorts of great features. It displays HTML correctly and reliably. There are no annoying hacks, and there are even features that IE does not support that make programming a lot nicer. Henceforth, Scrawlpoint will not support IE, nor will it be worried about. If you're serious about browsing the internet, you'll get a dependable browser; not the crap dished out by one of the most atrocious software companies known to mankind (READ: Microsoft).
+ What is a blog? And just what is a writing?
A blog is the contraction for Web Log. It is more or less a journal of sorts. You can write your opinions, thoughts, findings, secrets or anything else personally related, really. A writing is more formal. It's a paper, prose, poetry, novel, or any other related thing. It's pretty much up to your discretion.
+ What is a cycle and how do I get more?
A cycle is the record that you visited the site, while logged in, on a particular day. The total of cycles, or days you've visited, is displayed in various areas throughout the site. Remember, you must be logged into your account to receive the extra cycle. That means you can either log in every day to get the cycle, or if you checked the "Remember" button and visit the site, you'll be automatically logged in and also get the increase. Logging into the site each day is also refered to as cycling. You can say such things as "Did you cycle today?", "When was the last time you cycled?", etc.
+ What is a scrawlpoint and how do I get more?
A scrawlpoint is the smallest denomination of the onsite currency. You are now able to redeem the scrawlpoints in the online store for various site add-ons. You get more the same way you gain more cycles; visiting the site every day while logged in.
+ How many scrawlpoints do we get?
At the beginning of each day, the site runs an algorithm to determine the number of Scrawlpoints that each user will be allotted that day. The algorithm has several pieces that end up determining the total amount. Pieces are influenced by the users, random elements, and the developer (myself). Some pieces are interconnected, so the algorithm is not very simple, nor will it be easily found out! The points will vary every day, so visit regularly to collect the points and see how generous the algorithm was.
+ What does CR:UISE stand for, and what exactly is it?
CR:UISE stands for Code Repository: Users Individualised Special Entry. It refers to the items in the Scrawlpoint store that can be bought to enhance users' blogs and writings. Users can only use the items they've purchased, but as soon as the item is purchased, it can be used. The specially formatted code allows users to, in effect, add HTML to their pages, without the insecurity that comes with direct HTML input. Be sure to log in regularly and buy the Site Add-ons so that you can utilise CR:UISE!
I'm Kyle. I'm currently an undergrad at The Ohio State University, majoring in Computer Information Science and minoring in Business.
+ What about our personal information? Is it secret? Is it safe?
Your personal information is completely safe. I collect very little information, pretty much just the basics for registration. It will never be sold, distributed or abused.
+ So, what's your favorite color?
Blue is my favorite color! Orange is my second-favorite. Hence the site's colors.
+ What if I find a spelling, grammatical or other mistake.
Good point. Hey, I'm human and lazy. I'm awful and don't regularly use spell check or just miss something all together. I would, however, appreciate any messages letting me know about errors with the site! Scrawlpoint rewards will be given to all people who point out errors!
Another good question. The contact information for me is on the Contact page.
+ What are the little buttons on the bottom of the site?
The first is the link to validate my site's compliance to the W3C's XHTML 1.0 standards. The second is to check my site's style sheet for compliance with the W3C CSS standards. The third is the link to get Mozilla Firefox. I'm a new convert myself but the page is designed for Firefox because Internet Explorer has proved that even Microsoft can screw up HTML. The fourth is the recommended resolution for viewing the site. Lower resolutions will display the site but might require side-to-side scrolling. The fifth, and last, is the name I design under: nullSIX. When I have the site for that up, it will be a link that that site.
